Personal Sandustry Shaker layout using a downward route

Production · Shaker

Set up Shakers on a downward diagonal.

The official Shaker and Wet Sand entries confirm that Wet Sand splits into Gold on the lower side and Residue on the upper side. Build on a downward diagonal so gravity keeps the split clean.

Quick answer

How do you set up a Shaker without jams in Sandustry?

Mount the Shaker on a downward diagonal angle. Wet Sand splits automatically: heavy Gold exits through the lower discharge port, while lighter Residue ejects from the top. Route Gold directly into storage or a Vault, and install a Clearing Frame or dedicated burner line on the upper exit to prevent residue backpressure from halting the Shaker.

01

Feed Wet Sand from the high end

Start the Wet Sand at the upper end of the Shaker route. The official Shaker reference identifies the downward diagonal as the reliable layout pattern; this page uses it as the starting geometry, not a fixed universal footprint.

02

Use the downward route to expose the outputs

In my early-factory test, a one-level downward route kept the material layer easier to watch than a flat bed. The visual goal is simple: wet feed goes in above, Gold has a lower catch, and Residue has a clear top-side escape.

03

Catch Gold without crowding its drop

Gold can bounce at the Collector edge in a tight catch area. Add a visible drop and guide rather than assuming the Shaker itself has failed; then test the path with a small feed before widening the whole line.

04

Give Residue an exit before it becomes a wall

Residue moves slowly, which is a design constraint rather than a signal to add more Shakers. Keep a side or end route open, and inspect that route before increasing Wet Sand input.

05

Recover a jam in the order it formed

Pause new feed, clear the accumulated Residue, open or rebuild the exit, then restart with a small amount of Wet Sand. This preserves the evidence of the original blockage instead of burying it under fresh material.

Questions answered

Solve the next
blockage.

Which way should the Shaker face?

Place it on a downward diagonal so Gold drops clear of the upper Residue line.

What do I do with Residue?

Residue can be ignited into Burnt Residue and dropped 25 blocks into a Kinetic Press for more Gold and Seed.

  • My v0.4.12 test compares a flat Shaker bed with a one-level downward slope, then changes the Gold catch path after observing edge bounce. The slope, drop, and guide are a tested layout choice rather than a required universal footprint.
