Sandustry large automated refinery

Residue is the second half of the Gold loop.

Players often call it Slag, but the current official Wiki names the Shaker byproduct Residue. It is not waste by default: burn it carefully, then use a Kinetic Press to return it to Gold and Seeds.

Working route

Use the constraint
as the design.

  1. 01 · Take Residue from the Shaker

Wet Sand on a Shaker creates one Residue every time, with Gold as the separate chance output.

  2. 02 · Ignite it

Flamethrower fire, Rocket Launcher napalm, a Pyro Dispenser, or Lava held in a Filter are documented ignition routes.

  3. 03 · Accept the loss rate

Each Residue has only a 25% chance to become Burnt Residue; the rest can burn away without output.

  4. 04 · Drop through a Press

Burnt Residue needs a 25-block drop to pass through a Kinetic Press, where each successful pixel becomes one Gold and one Seed.

Questions answered

Solve the next
blockage.

Is Slag called Residue in Sandustry?

Yes. The official Wiki calls the Shaker byproduct Residue; this page targets the common Slag search term while using the official names in its mechanics.

How do I process Residue?

Burn it into Burnt Residue, then drop it at least 25 blocks onto a Kinetic Press.

Does all Residue become Burnt Residue?

No. The official conversion chance is 25%, and other pixels can be destroyed by the burn.

Tested second.

Official Wiki

  • Residue is a density-50 slushy byproduct of Wet Sand processed on a Shaker.
  • Burnt Residue is made by igniting Residue; only 25% of ignited Residue becomes Burnt Residue.
  • One Burnt Residue with a 25+ block drop through a Kinetic Press always outputs one Gold and one Seed.
