Sandustry Copper Mining Guide: Deep Underground Veins, Drill Extraction & Power Bricks

Copper is Sandustry's most vital mid-game electrical metal, essential for wiring, relays, and Power Bricks. Many players get stuck searching surface biomes where copper never spawns. This guide details exact subsurface depths, mechanical Drill extraction setups, liquid smelting workflows, and loss-free recycling.

Quick answer

Where is Copper Ore located and how do you mine it?

Copper Ore does not appear on surface sands or shallow dunes. You must excavate down through Crackstone to depth 40+ until you encounter dense brown sedimentary veins. Because manual digging drops less than 1 ore per 5 minutes, you must mount a Mechanical Drill above the vein connected to an extraction conveyor.

Subterranean Geology: Locating the Brown Band

In Sandustry's procedural world generation, ore distribution is stratified strictly by elevation. The top 0-30 blocks consist of loose Sand and compact Sandstone. Layer 30-40 transitions through dense Crackstone.

Once you pass the 40-block depth line, look for distinctive dark brown, rust-flecked pixel formations. These veins are expansive and contain hundreds of harvestable Copper units.

Drill Automation and Smelting Pipeline

Mounting drills directly against the ore face allows continuous extraction without manual labor. Position an inverted conveyor tray below the drill tip to catch falling raw chunks before they tumble into lava pits or deep chasms.

Route the conveyor belt into an adjacent Smelter heated by Lava. Liquid Copper can then be piped using insulated Pipes directly into Copper Molds for 100% automated ingot casting.

Questions answered

blockage.

Can I mine Copper with the starter pickaxe?

Technically yes, but manual chipping takes over 30 seconds per block and yields tiny fragments. Researching Mechanical Drills first is strongly recommended.

Why won't my Copper Ore melt in the Furnace?

Raw Copper Ore requires high-temperature smelting. Ensure your Smelter is fueled by Cinder or continuous Lava heating, as basic wood fire is insufficient.

What is the best use for my first 100 Copper?

Craft Energy Connectors first to establish your electrical grid, then pour remaining liquid copper into Copper Molds for battery power buffering.

How does Copper Battery recycling work?

Copper Batteries drop 16 solid copper ingots when dismantled. This allows prospectors to relocate or re-cast power storage without permanent metal loss.
