Filters are a vital tool for sorting through your pixels that need to be sent to different areas. They can be configured to either only let a single pixel type through, or to let everything except a single pixel type through. For any other pixels, they act as normal Conveyor Belts.
Filters work exactly like normal Conveyor Belts to any pixels not in its configuration. However, to pixels that are either 'allowed' or 'not blocked' it will enable them to fall straight down through the Filter and be deposited below.
If a tall pile of mixed pixels passes over the Filter, the ones at the top of a tall pile will not fall through if they have a lower density than the pixels below them, even if they are able to pass through the Filter. The exception to this is if the pixel is with 1 block (4 pixels) of the Filter it will be pulled through the denser pixels to the Filter, though this can't always be relied on.
If a pixel that is allowed to pass through a Filter changes into a pixel that isn't whilst it is passing through the Filter it will become stuck and stop falling through but also wont be pushed along with the conveyor part of the Filter and will need to be manually removed. Common examples of this are Sand or Seeds turning into Wet Sand or Wet Seeds if Water happens to be falling through the Filter at the same time and they combine.
If a solid block is placed below a Filter it will cause pixels to enter the Filter but not have a way to exit. The primary use of this is to trap Cinders inside a filter and then ignite them to create trapped Lava that you can run Residue over to create an auto-burner.
When filtering out pixels in a pile, it is best to filter out the densest pixels first as these will always be at the bottom of the pile and separate from the rest with no issue. For example, if you want to separate Gold from Sand on a belt, then by allowing Gold through the filter it will ensure the best chances of fully separating the mix as it will always be below the Sand.
